What is catchpowder.com?

catchpowder.com uses weather services and PowderPredict technology to predict where the best snow will be in ski resorts near to your area.

How does it work?

It uses consolidated weather services provided by NOAA to get weather reports for all of the ski areas in our databases. This information is then combined with location data, ski resort info, directions and PowderPredict technology to produce a report of where you are most likely to find the best snow. NOAA is run by the US government and is the weather service used by many avalanche services. It is renowned for being particularly accurate for mountain weather systems.

How accurate are the reports?

As with all weather reports nothing is guaranteed. However the NOAA feed is pretty accurate, generally predictions closer to today are more accurate.

Does 10in predicted snowfall mean 10in of powder the next day?

Not always. The amount of snow that sticks depends on terrain, wind temperature, rate of snow fall etc. Although PowderPredict technology will predict a powder day if there is 6in or more predicted overnight.

What is 'beta'?

catchpowder.com is currently in beta phase. This means that it has been launched on a trial basis for Washington and Oregon resorts only. We are doing this so we can track the success of the site. If it works out then we will add all North American and Canadian sites in time for next season.

Why only Washington and Oregon?

We are based in Seattle, and in beta phase we are only marketing in Washington and Oregon. If you found out about this site and you are not in Washington or Oregon then we would love to hear from you at admin@catchpowder.com. We might even add your area if we get enough requests.
